Tradition and Passion watchmaking toolboxes from Petitpierre

A collector’s dream

Many people who are passionate about watchmaking, its history, and the expertise involved in this expertise have already been charmed by this watchmaking toolbox.

A Siberian monk has ordered a non-leather version to give to his master, the Dalai Lama, in person. And more recently, Sir Jony Ive, ex-vice-president and Apple product designer, ordered one for his personal use and another for a famous friend. This is a great paradox: the man who designed the Apple Watch remains deeply passionate about mechanical timepieces.

Forty tools in an enchanting box

When Petitpierre designed their Tradition and Passion versions of their unique watchmaking toolbox, we didn’t necessarily have this “star” objective in mind. We wanted to revive the profession of the belfry clockmaker who, confronting wind and storms, tirelessly maintained the clocks in bell towers around the world.

We wanted to perpetuate this exceptional expertise by consolidating, in this captivating box, our extensive watchmaking-tool development and manufacturing experience and our passion for this legendary craft.

The elegant and functional box is designed for those who share this passion: the collector, the passionate watchmaker and the master watchmaker. The Tradition box contains 40 extremely precise tools delicately arranged in a high-end case. The Passion box, which is more affordable, includes 13 tools, kept in the tradition of the great master-watchmakers.

An already incredible fate

These tools are made of high-quality materials, such as Macassar ebony or walnut for the handles (as well as for the case) and stainless steel or HSS for tools with specific requirements.

Each tool can be used frequently, thanks to a layout carefully thought out by watchmakers who are used to using them on a daily basis.

To bring this exclusive design approach to its logical conclusion, we have produced a case that allows you to transport your precious tools securely.

Boris Petitpierre can testify to this: “I still can’t believe it! The fate of this toolbox is incredible. In 2013, it was on the scene as lot no. 15 at a charity event in New York, Red Auction. Opposite it was a pristine white Steinway & Sons piano that Coldplay’s Chris Martin used to play Lou Reed’s ‘A Perfect Day’, accompanied by U2’s Bono. In the centre of the world’s jet-set, the Tradition toolbox was there, surrounded by stars, including the world-famous Harrison Ford. What followed, confirmed the extraordinary fate of this rare object, which always lights up the eyes of fine watchmaking devotees!”
